have been fortunate in working with many blue-chip companies
over the years and the following case studies illustrate just
some of the successful projects for clients that we still consider
current. Among them, Bloomberg,
Lovells, Swiss RE,
Prudential, Wales
Millennium Centre, and the BBC.

30 St Mary Axe, the new headquarters for Swiss Re is located on
the site of the former Baltic Exchange in the heart of London's
financial centre. An 'environmentally progressive' building, the
tower houses not just offices but also a restaurant on the 40th
floor (for the use of building residents only) and is set within
a new public plaza. Swiss Re occupy 15 floors of the tower, consolidating
all their staff from various sites scattered throughout the City.
Dovetail's involvement began at the earliest stages of data collection,
right through to furniture mock-ups and managing the final migration.

On the corner of Finsbury Square and Finsbury Pavement is another
example of a successful commercial building by Foster
and Partners. Inside there are approximately 2000 workstations
for Bloomberg, one of Dovetail’s continuing
clients for ten years.
Over that period a true partnership has developed where Dovetail
has supplied Bloomberg from London to Hong Kong, Dubai to Moscow,
Prague to Stockholm. Using some of the smaller, locally-based
design firms, Bloomberg has consistently used Dovetail to source
and install product, from six dealer workstations in central Europe
to the latest large project. All based around Hannah from Knoll,
the workstation has become a transmitting station as Bloomberg
broadcast directly from the desk. Dovetail also takes care of
the training and conference facilities with a range of modern
classics to the latest designs, from George Nelson to
Jorge Pensi.

Virgin’s brand is different, in its values,
in its look and in practice. Given the opportunity to act as furniture
consultants on its airport lounges, the brief not surprisingly,
was to come up with something different again - no lounge was
to be the same as another. Each one was to have its own character.
There was to be no roll out programme.
To date, Dovetail has completed four lounges, at Gatwick,
Heathrow, Johannesburg and Tokyo.
Varying in size from providing accommodation for between 40 and
80 passengers, each project involves an eclectic mix of products.
In each case, the complete package has to be co-ordinated in
order that it can be loaded into one freight container for reasons
both of cost and security and in order to meet the very disciplined
timetable for implementation on each site. A logistical triumph,
each of the projects completed to date has met Virgin’s
expectations - of being different to the norm.

Ace Group is a US reinsurance business registered with Lloyd's
of London with whom Dovetail has an eight-year history. In that
time Dovetail has supplied new products such as Hannah and PL-1
from Knoll, as well as refurbished existing systems furniture in
regional offices from Crawley to Manchester. Dovetail's most
recent project for the Group was managing the relocation of over
500 people in 5 separate locations into the new head office
building at 100 Leadenhall Street in The City.
This included all areas of the building from the Chief
Executive's office, open plan areas with new and existing
furniture through to the basement training rooms and staff
restaurant.

Established in 1848, today Prudential plc is a leading international
financial services company with more than 13 million customers
and some 20,000 employees worldwide. In early November 2002, 435
Prudential staff moved into 38,750 sq ft of new office space at
one of London's hottest new locations, Paddington Central.
William Dunne, Managing Director of Prudential's Designers IDEA
commented "The key to the design is that it fully supports
the increasingly mobile and flexible workstyles that the majority
of office workers now adopt - often in spite of their offices.

DEGW were appointed to design and co-ordinate the complex and
lengthy phased occupation of two new 5-storey buildings adjacent
to the existing BBC offices at White City.
There was an unusually high level of staff involvement when it
came to choosing colours and storage configurations for each department,
(working from a ‘menu’ devised by the designers) which in turn
called for a highly sophisticated Project Management approach.
In addition to supplying all the Bisley cabinets on the job, Dovetail
worked closely with the project team on the multi-phased installation.

Wales Millennium Centre, on Cardiff Bay waterfront, is one of
the most exciting cultural initiatives happening in Europe today.
Not only a place to see the best in international musicals, opera,
ballet and dance, it is also home to seven diverse and exciting
cultural organisations.
Working closely with the WMC design team, Dovetail supplied seating
and tables for a variety of areas within the complex, from balcony
bars to conference facilities and children's classrooms. Another
successful installation for the Dovetail team.
